Slow Down

Inside view of a house along with some trees

Three years sure goes by fast.  Reading our last blog post, so much has happened since then.  One thing seems evident to me; as time seems to race by us, the need to slow down becomes greater.  We must be intentional with doing this, because if not we can waste our precious down time by being inadvertently sucked into our smart phones.  This does not satisfy the rest we need; to sit, to listen, and just to be.  We need time and the right space to contemplate our relationships, the direction of our lives and what it is that we are supposed to be doing.  That is why we love what we do.  Being trained in landscape architecture teaches us the design process.  We love being able to help create those spaces that can assist in those important times.

The Right Way

A sketch view of a park with a painting

Wow, what a time we are going through right now.  Lord, we pray for your protection and to end this virus swiftly.  We hope that through these times we come through closer to You and closer to each other.  I hope we can put politics aside and see the good in each other, let us help each other and look out for the health and well being of those most vulnerable.

That being said, there is only one way to do things.  That way is the right way, there are no short cuts.  The right way is time consuming, costly, requires planning and thought, but in the end the job is complete and built to last.  The work is done.

We are here to help you plan your outdoor projects.  Whether its planning a garden, outdoor gathering space, outdoor kitchen, outdoor living room, outdoor dining room, pool or pavilion; we give you a thoughtful design custom suited to your space.  Our process: we start with broad strokes and sound design concepts. Once you are pleased with the overall direction, we move forward and figure out all the nitty gritty details like setting the location and elevations of your drainage system, placement of expansion joints, utilities, irrigation elements, etc.…

While keeping a close eye on your budget, the planning is completed and now its time for you to meet some contractors and get apples to apples pricing.  You put your project out to bid and can now rest assured that you have the design you want and will get competitive pricing.  Just this past week, a client was able to save over $5000 on just one portion of a large renovation job!  Two weeks before we saved a client about the same on a smaller project.  All we ask is that the contractors give us their best price and do the plan as drawn.  Pretty straight forward and up front.  If there are any questions or concerns during the installation, we are happy to work with your contractor and are available.  If you would like us to oversee the construction and sign off on the work so you don’t have to take that responsibility or time to deal with that, we offer contract administration for all of our clients.  This fee is based off the size of your job and the oversight required to bring your project to completion.

Stay safe.  Wash your hands.  Be polite.  Pray.

Thank you and God Bless,

Magnolia

Design Is The First Step

A sketch view of a park along with a pool

Design is the first step. Well maybe not, maybe it’s the desire to change your surroundings. Maybe it’s the desire to be able to enjoy all your property instead of just the interior. Maybe you want a place for a hammock, would like to hear the sound of water or the birds chirp. Maybe you want a jungle oasis. That sounds nice, I want one too! I am working on mine, how about you?
The steps I took after being in the space and thinking about what I needed and wanted out of my yard was not to run off to Home Depot on a buying spree. I measured, planned, and designed the space. I thought of alternatives, the physical attributes, drainage, sun exposure, views from inside the house… Over time you add details, dress it up, and bring the space into completion. This is what we do at Magnolia Landscape Architecture, we specialize in landscape design. We listen to your wants, needs, and budget and put together a road map to that sweet spot where are three meet in harmony. Now you have a master plan you can do all at once or implement in phases. You need a map, you need a plan, and it all starts with a desire and design.

Happy New Year!

Understanding you and your site

Let me begin this New Year by thanking God for all He does for all of us.  I am so grateful to be able to have the job I have, helping people beautify their outdoor spaces.

Not everything we do here at Magnolia Landscape Architecture is really ‘beautiful’.  Solving someone’s drainage issue may not be considered a work of art, but to the owner a dry home may be a thing beauty. Anyway, we take time to make sure we completely understand your property. Maybe I’m talking out of context, but a doctor can’t properly alleviate a patient’s symptoms without understanding the patient.

So, that’s what we do.  We get to know you and your property.  We ask questions like: What do you want to use the space for? How many people will be using the space? Then we analyze the physical attributes of the space itself and create a thoughtful design custom to your needs and wants. Give us a call or shoot us an email.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Welcome!

A water fountain with water coming out

Thanks for your interest!

We are happy you are here visiting our website.  We understand your time is important, so let’s get to it!

With technology and stress competing for our attention, it seems like we have less time for ourselves and the ones we love.  I have a secret for you and most of you already know it.  Spending time outside in nature slows things down.  Thoughts become clearer, reflection occurs, and if you can relax outside for a few minutes, your day just improved.

That’s all we have for today! Hope to see you soon.

Thanks again for visiting.
